FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LentiClear Lenticular Lens, Inc. Introduces a Newly Patented Thin-Gauge Lenticular Lenses Designed For Sheet Fed and Web Fed Lenticular Color Digital Printers.

Jacobsen Offers U.S. Patented Web Fed Lenticular Imaging Licensing Opportunities To Printers.

Itasca, Illinois USA: September 01, 2004 - LentiClear Lenticular Lens, Inc., is introducing a new series of lenticular lens designs that provide superior viewing qualities and optimized printing results for sheet-fed, roll-fed flexographic, offset, gravure and most recently for the growing color toner and ink based electrophotograhic digital printing processes.

The new “LentiClear/Digital Elliptical Lenticular Lens 2005” version (0.0102-mil thin-gauge) was specifically created for users of digital presses such as: HP (Indigo), Kodak (Nexpress), Xeikon, and Xerox.

The US patented, and foreign patents pending "LentiClear Lenticular Lens 2005", which was developed in conjunction with a leading optical scientist, features a revolutionary new elliptical and optically correct lens configuration. It offers deep 3D depth imaging, multi-phase flip or motion action and zoom/morphing qualities that are superior to much thicker and heavier standard cylindrical / spherical lenticular lens materials currently on the market today.

Dr. Gary A. Jacobsen, president of LentiClear Lenticular Lens, Inc, states, "We carefully analyzed all of the previous and present lenticular lens designs and lens materials on the market and determined that an elliptically shaped lens using our precise optical formula would offer much better viewing properties with less aberrations and better focus, than the standard prior art cylindrical / spherical lens designs currently available. We invested a great deal of time and capital to create a completely new patented lens design formula, which includes lenticular diamond tool fabrication, proprietary precision CNC single point diamond turning, and elliptical lenticular lens array materials manufacturing that provides enhanced optical viewing properties for a wide range of lens thicknesses. For instance, the viewing performance characteristics of the newest 0.0102-mil thin-gauge LentiClear Lens (2005) design performs better than thicker and more costly spherical lenticular materials. The superior image results are proven by observing actual optical ray tracings and by viewing the actual excellent looking end printed lenticular products".

Lenticular Lens Product Lines

The newest line of LentiClear Lenticular Lens designs also offers a higher line resolution than other lens designs. This accurate thin-gauge 0.0102- mil features a fine pitch resolution of 138 lines-per-inch (LPI) with a generous 60-degree field of view angle, and joins the other LentiClear Lens lineup, which currently includes a 0.018-mil (75 LPI) lenticular lens. Other LentiClear lens designs will be available soon, including a 0.012-mil, and 0.014-mil, and new thicker lenses (0.022-mil and beyond) that will be used for the POP and the large sign/display markets.

Jacobsen states, "Our 0.0102-mil (138 LPI) is a major breakthrough in the evolution of thin gauge lens designs because it allows for a much wider application use of inexpensively digitally press produced, high quality decorative lenticular products such as: full or segmented carton wrap packaging, pressure sensitive lenticular labels, flexible packaging, in-packs and on-packs and cup wraps. In addition, the thin gauge lenticular can be used on medium or large volume produced advertising materials such as magazine covers, magazine inserts, postcards, business cards, brochures, direct mail, and consumer novelty items."

Proper Image Displacement

The LentiClear Lens (2005) is designed for imaging to be printed and proofed directly onto the back of the smooth lens side. This provides for much sharper print viewing, proper registration and more precise 3D and flip/motion action versus the traditional two-step approach of printing an image on paper and then laminating it to a lenticular lens. The two-step approach is also much more costly to produce, creates an array of press registration issues and displaces the proper focal distance of the lens to the printed area, often creating a finished image that “ghosts” and is out of focus.

Field Tested and Proven

Printers who have press tested the new 0.0102-mils LentiClear Lens are impressed with its overall qualities. "It's a great lens. The printed product looks stellar for such a thin gauge lenticular material. There is less make ready and less running waste, but higher print productivity. Plus, it has good structural stability and press feeding traits which results in more consistent press registration," says Tim Traub, Lenticular Business Unit Manager, Outlook Group Corporation, Neenah, WI.

Product Availability

For digital and sheet-fed printing, the 10.2 and 18-mil LentiClear Lens is available in standard sheets sizes, including a new 12 x 18” digital sheet format. For sheet fed offset, a 28 x 20" (1/2 sheet) or 28 x 40" (full sheet) is available, with options for receiving the sheets in reversed sheet size dimensions to allow for proper print to lenticule orientation and for printer desired lenticule press feeding choices (lenticules running around cylinder or across the cylinder). In addition, custom sheet sizes are available when ordered by printers in excess of 3,000 LBS.

For roll-fed web printing, LentiClear Lens is also available in web form in almost any custom roll width for flexographic, offset, gravure and digital printing processes. LentiClear inventory of the 0.0102-mil, 138 lpi, is produced in 12” wide rolls, and is available for immediate delivery to web printers that are licensed by WCG/APAP.

The “LentiClear/Digital Lenticular Lens” extruded material is pre-treated with a proprietary optically clear coating that is ink receptive when printed digitally direct to the lens. The digital printed image cures to the smooth side of the lens.

LentiClear Lens (2005) is currently available in APET resin. LentiClear Lenticular Lens designs can also be individually adjusted for using PETG, Rigid PVC and other custom resins.

Other Uses of LentiClear Lens Designs

Using its patent pending and patented lens design; LentiClear Lenticular Lens, Inc. can also develop custom lens materials with (varying thicknesses and resolutions and choice resins) to meet a customer's specific lenticular need for a particular end use, including light control management purposes, printable imaged advertising products; or non-imaged applications such as: lenticular computer screens, projection TV screens, etc.

Jacobsen Offers U.S. Patented Web Fed Lenticular Imaging Licensing Opportunities To Printers.

Jacobsen is also interested in licensing his multi-patented, single and double web roll fed lenticular web printing processes and products. The company welcomes calls from interested web printers seeking new market penetration into the growing lenticular printing industry.
